As a civil rights attorney and student of black history, I’m often asked which books I would recommend for someone who wants to learn more about both subjects. Therefore, I decided to make a video of 7 books I recommend to get you started with learning more about black history and civil rights.
I have many more books I can recommend, but will likely do so in another video. Let me know what you think of my list. Did I miss one that DEFINITELY should’ve been on the list? I’ve written the books and authors below in case you miss them.
1. Thinking About Race — by Naomi Zack
2. The Classic Slave Narratives — edited by Henry Louis Gates
3. Black Trials — by Mark S. Weiner
4. When and Where I Enter — by Paula Giddings
5. The Dark End of the Street — Danielle McGuire
6. The New Jim Crow — Michelle Alexander
7. The History of White People — Neil Painter
