The summer is upon us!
One of the things I love to do for the summer is create a reading list of books to get through. While I don’t always finish the list, it is a great way to keep me focused during the summer.
As we cope with the COVID-19 pandemic, the freedom that often comes with summer days may now seem to be no different than a regular day in quarantine. Hopefully this list will make your summer feel a little more “summery” and provide a mental outlet for you in the face of what’s going on globally.
Last week, I went live to share a list of eight black novels that I think you should add to your summer reading list, if you haven’t already. This list includes both African and African American authors and stories. I hope you enjoy.
Let me know what you think and if you have more recommendations. I’d love to hear from you.
1. Native Son — Richard Wright
2. So Long a Letter — Mariam Bâ
3. Sundaita — D.T. Niana
4. Famished Road — Ben Okri
5. Moses Man of the Mountain — Zora Neale Hurston
6. A Mercy — Toni Morrison
7. Invisible Man — Ralph Ellison
8. Children of Blood and Bone — Tomi Adeyomi
